Well, Well, Well 3 Holes in the Ground!!

"Well, Well, Well 3 holes in the Ground" to quote my lovely Grampy Watts!!!

Back at the end of last October we had our well drilled, the guy who did it went down 46ft and we are getting 2 gallons a minute out of it.  That is pretty good, but not brilliant! means we will have to have 2500 gallon holding tank and *fingers crossed* it doesn't run dry!

So fast forward to now, and this latest trip, its all very well having a well dug, a big metal tube down into the deepest darkest depths of the dirt! but no water comes out of it without further intervention! We spent some more dollars and purchased a pump, a small holding tank and lots and lots of pipe!

Mr M then proceeded to put it all together and build the base etc. so that by the time we were down there it would just be a case of plugging it all together and voila! Easy Peasy! right???? LOL apart from the leaks!

So you put 46ft of plastic pipe down the hole, careful as you do it so as not to drop anything down there, or lose your pipe! Mr M made an in-genius clamp to help us be successful!

Then he plumbed in the pump etc...

And guess what - we got water! yes at first we ended up with a few more leaks than anticipated, but some magic paste and tape soon sorted those out!  Clever Mr M!

And finally all this needed to be enclosed, Mr M had built the well house whilst we were at home, I spent a couple of my lunch breaks down in Oregon painting ( didn't I do a good job) and we put some insulation on the inside in case we do actually get a frost.... and then put it all together!! looks so cool and YES it does match the pole barn :) Consistency people, Consistency!!

We also got my chicken coop put up whilst we were down there, it is up at the back of the property next to where my vegetable garden will be! I will be putting some fencing up around it to allow them more scratching area! I am happy that at least when we move they will have a bed for the night!

Well that's all for now folks, we have our house on the market and it really is getting real now! We are both very excited and anxious to get our house sold and move on to this next chapter!!

We had holes and poles - now we have doors and floors!!!

We are back down in Port Orford for a week, we arrived to find the pole barn up!! and looking spectacular, it had no doors but that didn't seem to stop the "few" neighbors we have from stopping by to compliment us on it!  and apparently one of them has even been taken photos and making enquiries to the place we got it from about something similar!

Amazing what a bit of extra design by Mr M can do, takes a normally very agricultural building and turns it into something more garage looking, extra overhangs on the eaves and smaller garage doors etc.

The guy arrived and fitted the doors, and they finished it off a treat.  The framing is all wood and we will be leaving the wood beams exposed whilst insulating between them.

Whilst we are down here Mr M has been working on getting the well up and pumping (it is and that is a whole 'nother blog post) and he has also had the trenches dug and he has been busy laying the conduit with power cables, and water lines a big dirty dusty chore, but  obviously a necessity.    We have a tap on the side of the barn and water comes out of it :) and we have a huge massive power cable running to the barn.

Basically when we arrive we can park the airstream up under the carport plug into the power, water and septic and we are good to go!

We had one of our neighbors come out with his tractor to dig our trenches, Dennis, he is a really nice guy originally from California and him and his wife have done exactly what we are doing.  He knows where to buy everything and where to get the best prices!!

Our direct neighbor brought us about 2lbs of red snapper the other evening, he had been out on his boat for about 2 hours, and he said if he has a good day he always shares it out amongst the neighbors - it was delicious!!!!!

I have been working my regular schedule, and during my lunch break popping down to see Lance at the hardware store (him and Mr M will become very close friends) I have also painted the well house walls and I have put my chicken coop up!

We are living in a bit of a dust bowl, but Mr M assures me this level of housework won't be necessary once we are under the carport, dust really does get everywhere!! Plus by then the rain will have arrived, so I guess mud will be my friend then!!

Well that's all for now folks, will be back soon with the tale of water and where it comes from!
